Four Reasons to Consider Dental Implants in Centennial Colorado

Four Reasons to Consider Dental Implants in Centennial ColoradoYou are missing a tooth or two: maybe one was pulled after an abscess, or a couple were knocked out during sports.

No matter how you lost them, the important thing to consider is how you plan to replace them. It’s possible that if the tooth is in the back, you might never miss it, but your gums and bones will still feel the gap.

Here are three reasons you should consider a dental implant:

  • Your teeth may shift: This is especially true if your missing tooth is between two other teeth. The teeth on either side of the gap will move toward each other, lean, or twist, creating additional spacing issues with other teeth and throwing off your bite.
  • Your jaw may thin: Without the root of your tooth implanted in the jawbone, your jaw will thin to a narrow ridge. This makes it less stable for other teeth.
  • You’ll become less able to chew hard foods. The more teeth you have missing, the more difficult it is to get proper nutrition. With implants, you’ll be able to chew hard, tough, and crunchy foods just like you can with your natural teeth.
  • Your smile will be more distinctive- for the wrong reasons: Nothing makes a better first impression than a straight, white smile. But when you are missing one or more teeth, even for reasons that weren’t your fault, the gaps make you look less competent, less healthy, less desirable. It might not be true, but that’s the stigma of missing teeth.

But How Long Does It Take?

The whole process takes about 3-6 months from start to finish, and most of that time is healing. To start, Dr. Young implants the titanium root in your jaw. When it heals, we will take impressions so that we can make your permanent crown. The crown should be ready within two weeks; once we attach it to the abutment over your titanium root, the implant will be complete!
